At the heart of our beliefs stand what Jesus refers to as the greatest of the commands: love God and love others (Matthew 22:34-40). We believe a church should be known not only by what it believes but also by what it does. Beliefs become stagnant and void if they are not translated into actions. At the same time, actions that are not grounded in beliefs often become human-centered. We want City Church to be known both by its love for God and its love for people.
For that reason,
- In essential beliefs, we emphasize unity.
- In nonessential beliefs, we exercise liberty.
- In all matters, we exhibit grace.
Here is what City Church believes about…
THE BIBLE (KNOWABLE TRUTH)
We believe in the accuracy, truth, authority and power of the Holy Scriptures as the Word of God without error. We preach and teach from the Scriptures in a way that engages the hearer with God’s knowable truth.
GOD (NATURE)
We believe in a personal, trinitarian God who has revealed Himself as One. God exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each distinct, yet all of one essence.
JESUS
We believe Jesus Christ to be the virgin born Son of God who lived in flesh, died for the sins of the world, was buried, was raised back to life, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures.
THE GOSPEL
We believe that the death of Jesus Christ is the final and complete sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Salvation is obtained by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Those who repent of their sins and embrace Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord receive eternal life. The gospel is more than the starting point for the follower of Christ. It is the means by which we live everyday life.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that life on earth is to be lived in the power of the Holy Spirit, who indwells followers of Jesus, leads them to the truths of Scripture, and enables them to live distinctive lives in the life and power of Jesus Christ.
THE CHURCH
We believe that those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ are joined together as one Body, the Church, a distinctive community of faith expressed in local gatherings, engaging their community on every front with God’s redemption and love. Christ will personally return for His Church.
THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY
Created by and for the glory of God, we seek to pursue passionately intimate relationship with God in response to His great love for us. To know God is the ultimate treasure of the soul.
WHOLE-LIFE WORSHIP
More than outward expressions, God-honoring worship encompasses our entire existence, whereby in all circumstances our words and actions bring glory to God.
